Interesting article. A huge "fuck you" to tumblr, also stirring hope for a future where we'll have something like tumblr again, only better.

Thank you! It was an interesting read.

And it leaves me even more convinced that the fandoms should be looking into something like AO3 or Dreamwidth, where things are based on what we do, and not what advertisers want. But it's sadly starting to look like people are going to heavily fragment, with younger (or more tech-savvy) people going to Discord & Twitter, despite the fact that it's not an ideal platform for anything other than chatting and link sharing, and that Twitter has the damnable 280 character limit.

The sad truth is that Tumblr was a meeting place for a lot of minorities, and it might take a long while before another similar platform presents itself. I'm personally really enjoying Dreamwidth, but the retro style might be off-putting to the younger generation.

Yes, tumblr is much more accessible. I'm hoping that pillowfort might turn into something more sustainable, but it's not there yet...

I think it's a given that we'll have a tumblr-like or even better platform for Fandom in the future. Pillowfort looks promising and even if that fails, there are always going to be other sites. We've come so far already from just writing for yourself and sending fics to other fans via physical letter and mailing lists to now AO3 and other sites. :D
